Apparently, there are such things. Look at the title of this entry.
So, what are the characteristics of Open Source software?
FREE!!!!
yes. Free VIDEO GAMES! Woohoo!
It also seems that some of such games are based previously released games. I think I saw one where they describe the game uses the engine of Doom 2, the first person shooter game.
The most exciting part I think, is there is even developer documentations for this games!
WOW!
We can code in our own parts in the game?

Toothbrush User Group
Recently, I realised there are such groups or organisations called user groups. One obvious example is Linux User Group. So people who use Linux will join, they will organise meetings to interact with each other. People of the same interest, essentially.
I have decided that I want to organise a user group too. It will be called the toothbrush user group. Everyone will be automatically registered into this group after I created it.
WHY?
Because everyone use a toothbrush. This is something common for all of us.
I will also organise an annual meeting. ToothCamp.
In this camp, we will talk about Tootbrushes. Below is a draft of the manifest for this user group.

Looking high .Staying humble
Sometimes I have to remind myself. Everyone got each of our own weakness and strength.
But sometimes I wish I was very capable, to be on top of the world.
Sometimes I tell myself I wouldn't just be an ordinary humble working class-person lol. As long as one can live
happily, there is nothing much to complain about.
There are also times when I wish I have very successful career.
I don't understand why I have these feelings from two sides.
How does one look up high and stay humble at the same time, and not let power, position, arrogance take over?
P.S. I didn't meant to keep using the 'time' word.

Stamps and Sources
When I logged into Blogger, the first they show me is a dashboard-like menu. One of the items in this dashboard is the display of traffic source to my blog, this blog.
I don't understand though.
I don't understand though.
The traffic source is a URL of what lawdegree.com or something.
The traffic source seems rather irrelevant, I cannot make a connection how that source and my blog content are related.

Put your weapon down,NOW.
I have been watching the gameplay of L A Noire at YouTube. I was exposed to it the first time after watching TobyGames.
It is a fairly interesting game. There are some action scenes which I remember well like when Cole chasing a criminal inside a crumbling/falling film shooting venue.
The story behind the game is also interesting.
My finger feels funny.

New Interface?
O hai.
Forgot to mention that I am continuing the same FYP this semester. I don't think that it is a bad thing.
It has been quite some time since my previous post. The user interface of Blogger has changed. I feel its pretty cool.
New and last semester is starting next week.
I missed watching F1 yesterday. I reached home and it was the prize giving ceremony. But I was around Bugis yesterday and I could the hear racing vehicles in the night. It was the first time I was so close to the track. HAHAHA
Yesterday we ate at this 'paradise' restaurant. They have this wonderful dish which is fried noodles with the 'hand of pork'.

Night of Awards
Yesterday night was the awards ceremony at school.
I got one no-big-deal award. Nevertheless, I was still very nervous when I walked on stage and I thought my smile directed at the camera was not very natural.
Of course I saw some classmates and former classmates.
No photos taken by ourselves. Though the school did take all our photos. I don't think I can get/access them.
I only saw one faci that I knew.
Getting this award, I have mixed feelings. Of course, I feel happy. But if my future performance is not good. Getting this award is not so significant. zzz
For some reason, I just felt like listening to this song while I typed this:
'I want it that way' - backstreet boys.

Confidence Downstairs
As of today, I can finally say the 1st FYP is over.
That is the 4 of us. LOL
I wondered If I mentioned this, but I am really confused whether I gave in my best this semester in school. Haiz.
I must chiong my studies next semester. If not the AA would not be significant at all.
Haizzz.
By the way, this few days at midnight, there would be this man somewhere downstairs of my block shouting something I can't understand, but it is very loud indeed.

Cool & Hip Mocha Burn
FYP 1 has come to a close.
Today my team mates and I 'burned' the CDs for submission.
Why is the photo straight in my computer but like this on the Web?
We had a drink at Coffee Bean. It was the first time the 3 out of 4 of us have a drink from that well-known eh what? Coffee seller? LOL. I feel much more hip and cool after that YO! HAHAHA
Should have taken a photo of it.
Oh yea, on the way to way to Bugis, I spotted the old building near Queenstown MRT Station. If I am not wrong the building is called 'Queensway Bowling'. The first time I saw that, I was really surprised.
Found this picture from another blog at http://myitchyfingers.files.wordpress.com/2008/07/cinema2.jpg
P.S.Life is a play that does not have a rehearsal

20 Plus days later.
I am so happy that I am getting an award in less then one month's time. HA.
I wish I can get another award next time. I think the next semester would be critical in achieving that. I shall hope and aim to maintain my performance.
This is the final sprint for my FYP. Now that all my tests are over, I shall chiong all the way.

Don't know
Sometimes at the end of a day, I can feel my head ache a bit, one solution I always implement is to shut my eyes for a long period of time.
I think my lips started to bleed today while I was with my FYP team mates today. I think it is because I got an ulcer on my mouth and my lips are very dry.
P.S. 60 Years later, I want to take slow walk around the entire Singapore, without any worries in my mind. HA!

Dramatic Loss of Power Cord
I never expected I would write down anything like that.
Yes.
But cannot be sure if I really lost the power cord of my laptop, it might still be in class.
The dramatic thing about this whole incident is that I and my friend tried to retrieve it after 'class hours'.
We tried to go to the classroom but that staircase door and lift won't let us access those levels in the buildings with classroom.
By chance, someone from behind one of the door on another level opened the door and we went in. But from there we still cannot access the level of my class. lol
I am going to take a chance by going down tomorrow. Hopefully I can get in.

F Why Pee
My final year at poly is centered around F Why Pee.
Keep thinking about it all day, of course I haven't dreamt about it just yet. Who knows, it may happen after I write this.
Of course, this FYP has made me closer with some people like my team mates more than before. That's a good thing. :)
I think I saw an acquaintance today in a crowded lift at lunch time.
(the word acquaintance is very good to use. Instead of saying someone I dun know really well. )
Before I type this sentence I am thinking whether I can still remember who this acquaintance is after I revisit this blog entry maybe one year later. Hmm....
Anyway, I went to Samsung Hub recently for a workshop about Android. The building has a very unique lift. You key in the number of which level you want to go, then the lift opens and transport you there.
I think that was also the first time I went to Raffles Place. LOL
I mean, everytime the news show video footage of the buildings/banks and the people walking/working there. LOL. It is no tourism heaven. But it is definitely significant.

Ego
I just realised that I have 'quite an amount of' ego.
I am so sure and confident of myself. I feel uncomfortable when I am treated like as though useless, cannot help.

License to Code
So I was the 'License 2 Play' event yesterday at Suntec Convention Hall.
I was there because there was this workshop on Android. At least I learnt a few things from it. Though one thing I could say was that the place was noisy.
I saw a racing simulator at the event also, I think there were at least 5 big TV set which acted as the display of the simulator. Hmm.. It was quite astonishing(maybe jus a bit). But definitely interesting.
Looking forward to the second workshop and the short school holiday.

Busy Lunch Server
My mind is full of things that I want to do. I fear that I may forget some, one way or another.
Final year project is still progressing. But as the weeks pass, I can feel the pressure. Now we have to install the LMS on the remote server.
This week I have 4 test dispersed within the same week. Pressure again.
I worry that I am not doing so well in my normal class lessons this year. Haiz. Gotta do better. I wonder if I have become much more 'slacking'.
Did I?
I am going to look forward to Sunday. I will be attending this workshop on Android. I shall write about it.
I want to try improving the gadgets at the left sidebar of this blog.
I have this habit of having my lunch rather fast, especially if I eat alone. Then there are classmates who thought that I didn't went out to have lunch at all.
Lord.
I wonder why they give so much attention to whether I lunched.
I am going to guess because I am thin, need to eat more eh.
Lord. Forgot my homework, even though I am revising for the final test tomorrow.

Functions!
How can I forget, in most programming applications. There are Functions in the code. In the Web, there is a huge list of function reference for that programming language.
The function reference also applies to system/framework developed by others, e.g. WordPress. In WordPress there is the_post_thumbnail().
Googling the function name can give results explaining the function. Whether the source is the official developer site of that system or other websites.
God.

Enter the Android
I don't know why I feel that this final year at school seems to be busier when I had internship. LOL
After much messing, I finally installed the ADT in Eclipse. I wonder if there is a way to make the emulator 'work' every time.

Acceleroooooo!!!!
I miss doing some stupid programming during free time, now that I am busy with my FYP and school work.
There was once I used the Accelerometer or something in the App Inventor. What I did was to let the phone send a sms whenever the phone detect a shaking motion. As a test, I set the recipient of the message back to myself.
I recall shaking my mobile phone a few times only. But then I received back more than 20 sms.
Those were the days.
Been watching 'the unforgettable memory' /yi nan wang/ 意难忘
with Mum. LOL. There are parts which were filmed really well and I remember them. ( JC, Y U SO AUNTIE! ).
I am pondering whether I should take a certain module next semester. I am afraid the next FYP might make me very busy and cannot cope.
Looking at my previous posts. Then I realised I forgotten to mention the meeting with project client. There is nothing much to say LOL. Well, I like the block which the meeting is carried out. It had a nice scenery LOL. The meeting room was also the 'real' meeting room we see in tv shows lol. Big-company-meeting-room that comes with nice scenery too.

Lightning and Hammer. (not Thor)
The election was just over.
I would like to quote two articles.
this above is from The Economist.
the above is from Straits Time
Whatever that it is. PAP still lives in the hearts of many and WP/Opposition has a chance to prove their capability this time eh.
I would like to quote two articles.
All this clearly has the PAP a bit rattled, if Lee Kuan Yew’s comments are anything to go by. Fighting his own 14th election, the 87-year-old “Minister Mentor” (MM), as he is officially known, has been warning voters of the dire “consequences” of voting against the PAP. “You must expect the PAP to look after PAP constituencies first”, he told reporters. Thus if the unfortunate voters of Aljunied really do have the temerity to vote out the PAP, they will have “five years to live and repent”, according to MM. Asked if this sort of provocative language could cause a backlash against the PAP among voters, MM himself remained wholly unrepentant: “I am 87. I am speaking the truth. I do not want to be hypocritical.” So there.
this above is from The Economist.
THE Workers' Party made a historic breakthrough by winning Aljunied GRC, with a comfortable margin of 9.42 per cent in the defining battle for the 143,148 votes.

You want to send email between two or more different email account locally or using the server, localhost.
Note that I have used the following while writing this:
- XAMPP Control Panel Version 2.5.8 / XAMPP for Windows ver. 1.7.3
- Mercury/32 ver. 4.7
- Mozilla Thunderbird ver. 2.0.0.24
In XAMPP Control Panel: Start Mercury. Lanuch Mercury (the Admin button).
Under configuration and in Protocol Modules, the following needs to be checked or active:
MercuryS SMTP Server
MercuryP POP3 Server
MercuryE SMTP end to end delivery client
MercuryD distributing POP3 client
MercuryH PH directory service server
MercuryB HTTP web server(it seems that this can be active or inactive.)
To create the new email address or users, go to Configuration then Manage local users.
Click on add.
The username will be part of the local email address.
If you key in mrbean in the username field, the email address that you will use locally is mrbean@localhost. Username is of course mrbean.
The personal name can be just a name you use in the real world; e.g Mr Funny Bean
Maill password and username will be used to access email in your inbox. You have to remember it.
Its seems that it isn't compulsory to fill in the APOP secret.( think this has got to with security) .
Close the manage local user window and return back to the main screen.
The components namely POP3 server and SMTP server will have the status of 'Ready'.
-END of mercury mail-
Launch Thunderbird.
Under tools, go to account settings.
This window will open...
Click Add Account.
A new window appears.
First screen: Account type is email of course.
Second screen:Identity
In email address, fill in the email you have created with Mercury, use the example from above, the email is mrbean@localhost (ignore the .com at the back for now. )
Third Screen: Server Information
Selection is POP.
Name of incoming server is localhost.
The rest of the screens just leave it as it is.
Back to Account Settings Window. This time at the side bar on the left click on Outgoing Server (SMTP).
Click on the Add located at the right.
New window appears.
Description can be any meaningful text for you.
Server name is localhost.
Username is the username created in Mercury just now. Using the example above, it is mrbean.
Click ok.
Account Settings Window again.
On the side bar at the left select the email account you created just now.
On the Outgoing Server(SMTP) drop down, select the one you created in the previous step.
Everything is done and ready to go. Try getting mail from inbox, there will be a prompt to enter the password. The password is the one created in Mercury.
Try composing and send the email.

Mercury localhost
It took me about 2 days(of course less than 48 hours, but still 2) to finally configure Mercury Mail correctly on localhost.
I wonder what happens next time when I have to set up a real working email server.
If I didn't found the correct website to look at. I wonder how much longer I am going to take.
I set it up because I thought it will be relevant to my FYP. Lets hope I am not wrong.
Meeting with FYP client tommorrow. Hmm... I shall write about it.
I just realise the background color for this blog is actually purple all this while. god.

Having an Open mind.
It seems very important to be able to have an open mind.
In which I can be not so hasty. In which I can look deep and explore different perspectives people may have.
Its not an easy thing to do.
Its not an easy thing to do.
Become a certified!
I wonder if it is worth it pay a few hundred dollars to take a test to become a 'Certified Programmer'.

Opinions
Of course we can have opinion on a person.
But then keep in mind that, our opinions may be wrong.
Because: You may not understand that person so well at all(Especially if u dislike him.her)
If u dislike that person, would you bother to understand that person, would you bother to try and understand/know that person?
If ur answer to the previous question is NO. Then since u dun understand, that opinion u have belongs to you only.
I have met people whom I change opinions of over time.
But there are also people who stay the same.
God.
So do I, there are somethings that I find it difficult to change. BUT. There are some, which have such haiz. I dun wan to say anymore.

I have seen/heard a lot of references about being good in maths and programming is supposed of a programmer. How weird.
In school, I didn't do well in Maths since young. Till now. In poly, my Programming modules are better than Maths modules. I also enjoy Programming more than Maths.
I wish I can treat Maths as something I will enjoy to do also....
<Insert confused here>
So far, the supervisor seems happy with what we have done for our FYP so far.
I think this is the first time I am so aware about the election things in the country. Today happens to be the nomination day.
There is this publicity, marketing move by the political party. Let me describe it.
1. The election candidate put his photo on the vehicle, visible to onlookers.
2. The car has nobody on it other than the driver.
3. The car is driven around the estate.
Question. By doing this, the candidate can get more votes?
I ask only because, I dun feel anything when I see it. LOL.

Why not to date and Object Oriented/Programmer.
Why not to date an Object-Oriented/Normal Programmer:
His answers are either True or False. (Boolean)
He visiualise everything as an Object including u. (Object Oriented Approach)
He keeps asking questions that starts wit 'If....' (If Conditions)
He tend 2 do things repeatedly. (Loops)
He has a large collection/ an array of weird things. (Array)

School Day 1
Back to school once again.
Feel a bit tired today.
I hope I didn't choose the wrong module.
A few classmates from the previous semester.
hmm...
Why does it pain me when I remember/recall people who were good to me?

Jade of Crystal?
Yea, we had dinner at Crystal Jade. The food was pretty nice, however Mum found it to be quite expensive. No surprise there. It had always been.
We ate this tofu that was steamed in a very tasty gravy. Conpoy/干贝was inside the gravy. Yea. But that is not the only good dish in the restaurant.

Looping Choice
It is very hard to describe. How the choices I have made, created the person who I am now.
It is also very hard to talk about how the choices of others affect ours.
'What happens if back then I did/didn't do that? ', would I still be the same person today, typing?
Have I made right/wrong choices?
After doing some repetitive stuffs some weeks ago. It suddenly dawn on /hit me that, whether we live in a loop. OF COURSE! Back then, even in Primary School, didn't I learn science, Life Cycle. A loop. Repetitive.
egg -> chick -> chicken
and so on and so forth, forever.
Of course, there are variations within the cycle. Not the same egg is produced in each cycle. But its still the same process.

National Library Exchange book of Programming
Today marks the first time I go to the National Library building at Victoria Street.
I went there for this book exchange program.
I was very SURPRISED as I saw people turning up with a luggage/suitcase. I wonder how many of the coupons they have, how many books they are going to put into that luggage/suitcase.
I managed to get back one reference book from this session. not too bad eh. Got a lot of practice questions inside the book that I will try and to.
Despite cooking during the days taking Food & Nutrition at Zhenghua, I still forgotten to press down the button of the rice cooker. GOD. That calls for a big
FACEPALM Yea.

Hokkien meme code Project.
As promised(to myself), I have edited and added my own codes into this blog. For example, look at the javascript things on the right sidebar. I have also changed the font style for some elements via the CSS generated by Blogger. Some customisation are done just using the Template Designer within the admin interface. HA!
I have recently been looking at Meme(s) in the Web.
I find them at Know Your Meme.
Some examples:
LOLcats.
By the way, the Final Year Project in school is starting soon. I also like to listen to some of the new Hokkien songs. When I say new, I meant they are released after the 90's. LOL

Thoughts: Youth 'bully' website shocks Germany
There was this news article about an online forum where people posted offensive remarks.
News article link here
This postings on certain people in the forum trigger these people to engage in a brawl.
Some of the people in the brawl were sent to hospital.
One part form the news article :
'The founder of iShareGossip.com said in the only interview he has given, and on condition of anonymity, that the site was hosted by the same Swedish server as document-sharing platform WikiLeaks.
So much for the World Wide Web. the Web isn't created for such actions. So much for the Web linking and bringing people together.

The site itself says it "aims to contribute to more transparency on the web". Anonymity allows users "to exchange opinions that they might not publish under their own name," the site adds.'

Join the dark side?
I don't know, I laughed yea. She was so innocent to have done that. There is no serious need to bow.

Back again.
Yes. I am back again.
I have finally finished everything that is related to the internship.Woo. School is reopening soon. The Final Year Project is heading my way.Yea. There seemed to be some changes in the school's arrangement of rules or academic thingys.
I now have this Group E classes. hmm...
I actually did some sort of comparison between LiveJournal, WordPress and Blogger just now. If I am not wrong, only Blogger users can edit the CSS without paying(lol).
So yea. Blogger by Google eh. I think I like Google eh, cool company, cool products. LOL.
Back to the Final Year Project, I am rather glad I learnt about content management system during the internship. I think it will be useful in my doing of the learning management system.
Just installed this Moodle LMS locally. Still figuring it out. The documentation online is still like a stranger to me. I hope I handle this like how I did with WordPress during the internship...
Oh yea, am I typing faster?! Lol
I am reading 'You don't have to be evil to work here but it helps' by Tom Holt. Hopefully can finish soon.
Oh yea, so I am going to this book exchange program on Saturday. It will be first visit to the 'headquarters' of the National Library. Cool ah! HAHAHA.
Programmer talk: Yes. The CSS, I will play with the CSS in this blog...
